Govt to inspect soybean plants to ensure quality

With trade war with the United States that used to meet over half of the demand of soybean meal for China, India can emerge as a prospective supplier. Exports to China will lift the market sentiment and will give a boost to local exports.”China has a huge demand for soybean meal to feed to their livestock industry. China had banned imports of soybean meal from India in 2012 due to quarantine issues.Soybean Processors Association of India’s (SOPA) executive director DN Pathak said, “Dialogues are on with China on fresh exports of soybean meal and exports are likely to resume soon. INDORE: As dialogues with China on revoking ban on imports of Indian soybean meal has advanced, the government has recently inspected about 15 top soya processing plants of the country to ensure proper quality to fulfil Chinese standards.A three-member team comprising officials from Export Inspection Council India, Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage and Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) have inspected around 15 plants of India.Of those inspected, six soybean meal crushing plants were from Indore in Madhya Pradesh , the largest soybean producing state in the country with several large exporters operating from the city.“Inspections were carried out at plants in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra among others to check facilities and standards,” said sources.These inspections were done in anticipation that Chinese industrialists will visit some soybean meal crushing plants of India to check quality issues before placing orders.“This is just an internal checks at the primary level and number of plants may increase as and when we will get information,” the official said.India is hoping to export soybean meal to China after a gap of nearly six years as the trade war between United States and China has opened fresh avenues of exports for the country.
