INDORE: Narmada-Kshipra river link project , which was meant for providing water during Ujjain Simhastha 2014, is now being used for irrigation and fulfilling water requirement of industries.“The project, which has capacity to lift 432 MLD water from nearest point of Narmada river, was meant to ensure availability of water during Ujjain Simhastha 2014 by releasing water into Kshipra river at its origin- Ujjaini village- as it flows to Ujjain. After the event, dependability for water over the project for Ujjain has reduced,” Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) executive engineer Sanjay Joshi told TOI.He said that the authority has prepared a plan to use the water to benefit nearby areas, where it is needed for irrigation, drinking and by industries. Micro-irrigation project at Balwada village in Khargone district is one of it.“NVDA lifts water at 400 metre height from Narmada river valley to link it with Kshipra river at Ujjaini. Balwada is located downward and thus, there is no need to install any motor to lift the water since it will flow naturally through pipelines,” Joshi said. He added that the micro-irrigation project, which will have a capacity to release 108 MLD water, will help in irrigation of 5,000 hectare. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will inaugurate the project on September 26.“Besides it, 90 MLD water from the link project will be provided for another micro-irrigation project, Simrol-Ambachandan. Mhow MLA Kailash Vijayvargiya on Friday laid foundation stone for the project in Simrol,” Joshi said.He added that NVDA provides 10 MLD water to IIT, Indore, while a contract has been signed with AKVN to provide 90 MLD water for industries. Presently, AKVN is taking 20 MLD water from project.“Dewas Municipal Corporation and industrial area both have demanded 15 MLD water and NVDA has accepted it,” Joshi said.Ahead of inauguration of Rs 2187 crore worth Narmada-Malwa-Gambhir River Link Project (NMGRP) by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on September 27, district collector Nishant Warwade, MLA Manoj Patel, SDM Aditi Garg and Sohan Kanesh along with officials of NVDA on Friday visited Hatod and Depalpur tehsil and took stock of the ongoing arrangements.“During the visit, we examined few spots, where a helipad can be created for landing of CM’s helicopter for the event. We also reviewed security, traffic and tents arrangements for the event,” Warwade told TOI.
