Election Commission assigns 14 IASIRS officials duty of observers

Indore: Election Commission has assigned 14 IAS/IRS officials serving across the country duty of general/expenditure observers in nine constituencies of Indore district.According to officials concerned, the state has got less than 200 general observers to be fielded in 230 assembly seats of the state but authorities have made sure that there will be nine general observers in as many constituencies of Indore district and therefore, have assigned them responsibility to ensure free and fair elections in all six urban and three rural constituencies of state’s business capital.“All nine general observers will join from November 9,” ADM Ajaydeo Sharma told TOI. He added that authorities have also sent five expenditure observers for Indore district.According to election officials, Mhow was stated to be a ‘critical’ assembly seat and thus, an expenditure observer – Rohit Mehra (IRS, 2004 batch and presently serving in Punjab) — will be assigned for this constituency while remaining four expenditure observers have been assigned two-two constituencies each.This apart, 27 flying squads have been constituted, three in each constituency, to keep a close tab on violation of model code of conduct across district.Meanwhile, district election office has planned a cycle rally as part of its ongoing activities under Systematic Voters’ Education and Enrollment Participation (SVEEP) plan while a signature drive will also be organized to educate and encourage voters to exercise their franchise.
