INDORE: Election Commission (EC) has deployed a ‘dedicated’ expenditure observer to keep a check on cash flow in Dr Ambedkar Nagar (Mhow) constituency, which witnessed two heavyweights from BJP and Congress – Kailash Vijayvargiya and Antar Singh Darbar contesting in last two assembly polls amid ‘speculations’ of exceeding the limit of expenditure set by authorities making the seat a ‘critical zone’.The district has received five IRS officials, serving in different states, to be assigned responsibility of nine constituencies. To this, a 2004-batch IRS official, presently serving in Punjab, has been deployed as expenditure observer for Mhow while remaining eight constituencies have been divided equally among four IRS officials.According to official concerned, Mhow constituency came to limelight during 2008 assembly polls when Vijayvargiya changed his assembly seat of Indore-II and decided to contest polls against two-time MLA Darbar. In the election, there were ‘speculations’ of heavy cash-flow to influence voters, which continued in next assembly polls.However, officials denied of any complaint of heavy cash flow to influence voters of candidates spending over than the upper limit of their expenditure as set by EC. “In our records, no candidate had exceeded the upper limit of Rs 16 lakh as election expenditure but were quite lower than it,” Mhow SDM and returning officer, Pratul Sinha told TOI.For this election, EC has set an upper limit of election expenditure as Rs 28 lakh for every candidate.This time, BJP has fielded Usha Thakur , who is poorest among all its MLAs with her completely depending on monthly MLA allowance of Rs 1.09 lakh against Congress’ candidate, Darbar, who has shown worth of his movable-immovable properties as over Rs 2 Crore in his nomination. Both candidates have licenced firearms as mentioned in the papers.
