With the onset of these Diwali preparations has come a strong sense of awareness among the students of the city as well. The constant buzz about increasing pollution levels and spreading diseases due to bursting of firecrackers on Diwali has compelled students from different colleges in the city to take a stand and change the definitions of celebrating the festival. Let’s see how students from different colleges have celebrated or plan on celebrating their Campus Diwali in different ways...Diwali is all about wearing new clothes and cleansing out our souls from all the negativity and coming together as a community. Students from Educational Multimedia Research Center ( EMRC ) had a Campus celebration of the festival in a very simple yet beautiful way. Kshitij Sharma, a student of third year M.Sc. in Electronic Media shares, “Students from all batches from our college came in traditional outfits because what is Diwali without kurta pyjamas! We had a small pooja, shared sweets and clicked pictures. There were some decorations that were done but we tried to keep it as simple as possible so that everyone can enjoy.” Another student from the same college, Harshita Parmar adds, “The traditional attire and the evening pooja gave us a very relaxing feeling along with making the entire aura of the college very fresh and pure. We plan on going green this Diwali, it is so much serene this way.”Some students thought of keeping it simple while for others Diwali celebration was rather fancy. Students from International Institute Of Fashion Design ( INIFD ) celebrated Diwali in a different fashion altogether. Sherin Sisodiya, a final year student of Interior Design shares her experience, “Diwali in our campus is celebrated in a very different way every year. This time we had a 2 day event in our college by the name "Parv". Various competitions like Rangoli making, face painting, lamp making, antakshari and so on took place where students had come dressed up in traditionals. But there were no crackers or anything. We had our own fun without disturbing the nature.” Vini Malik, studying in the second year of Interior Design adds, “In our Diwali event, different stalls were set up by the students and competitions like solo dance, solo singing, nukkad natak were held. We had a few more fun activities and our Diwali carnival ended with a dj night. It was a beautiful way to celebrate the festival without causing harm to the environment.”The festival of lights is often misunderstood for being the festival of noise and pollution by many. Some students believe in spreading smiles on the festival and taking care of everyone around them during this time. Vartika Singhai , a student of first year MBA-FT from Institute Of Management shares, “Green Diwali is a great idea to go with, because our environment needs some attention now. We will incorporate it our college as well. Wearing traditional clothes and lighting up our college by earthen lamps. We will celebrate this Diwali by not spending money on crackers but by spending time on our relations.” Dhiraj Nagar, another student of first year core MBA from Institute Of Management shares, “I am not much of a loud and all fire crackers kind of a person. I would love to spend this Diwali with all my friends by meeting and greeting them and sharing jokes instead of firing crackers. I and my friends have rather creative ideas for college decoration and will go on binge eating for sweets. Also including teachers and the whole staff in our small celebration. We believe in spreading more and more happiness during festivals more than the usual festivities.”So this Diwali, the youth of the city is going all green and taking initiatives to do better for the society. Maybe in the coming years, the pollution levels will go down and we would be breathing a little fresher air.
