Notices to IMC asst enggs over regularizing water connections

IMC officials said that due to these illegal connections, people who pay bills are deprived of the water that they are supposed to get. INDORE: Indore Municipal Corporation IMC ) has issued notices to all its assistant engineers of Narmada project for delay in identifying and regularizing illegal water connections of their respective zones.Civic body officials said that the drive to identify and regularize illegal water connections was stopped in all zones of IMC. Around 30000 illegal water connections are still there that need to be traced and regularized. "It was the responsibility of all zonal assistant engineers to identify illegal connections of their respective areas and get them regularized," said Lata Agrawal, deputy commissioner with IMC. She said that not more than 50 connections have been identified and regularized in past eight months.

"Despite clear instructions, assistant engineers failed to get this work done for which they have been issued notices,” she said, adding that any further delay in conducting this drive would lead to strict action against them. Around 30000 illegal water connections are still there that need to be traced and regularized. “Roughly, they are causing an estimated loss of Rs60000 per month,” said sources in civic body. IMC officials said that due to these illegal connections, people who pay bills are deprived of the water that they are supposed to get.
