Employees' strike cripples bank operations

INDORE: Banking operations were affected on Tuesday as a section of bankers were on strike for two-day that will extend until Wednesday.In Indore district , around 500 bank branches were shut out of 636 in the entire district hitting regular banking activities as most of the clerical staff supported the strike while officer’s grade extended moral support, according to MP Bank Employees Association.This is the third bank strike in less than a month.Association’s chairman M K Shukla said, “The strike has adversely affected the banking activities as 500 bank branches were shut. Of these, major demands of bankers are minimum wage of Rs 18,000 for all, minimum pension Rs 6,000, final option for pension and scrapping NPS among others.Hundreds of bankers took out a rally and staged protest on Tuesday and on Wednesday they will gather at Gandhi hall at 11 am to press for their demand to the government.Ten central trade unions INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, AICCTU, UTUC, TUCC, LPF and SEWA involved in the strike have placed a charter of 12 demands before the central government.
