Bullet hits Indore jailer during firing exercise

INDORE: Central jail jailor KK Kulshreshth received bullet injury on Tuesday when a pistol accidentally went off during the annual firing exercise of the department at the Revati Shooting Range on Tuesday, officials said.The injured jailer was immediately taken to MY hospital, where his condition was said to be stable, the officials said.The pistol, from which the bullet went off, was being handeled by a constable.“I am fine now. The officials might not have followed it which led to the incident, they said. The bullet just grazed my thigh. The doctors conducted the first aid and discharged me in an hour. I am fortunate enough to have escaped with minor wounds,” Kulshreshth told TOI.On being asked whether actions will be initiated against the constable, the jailor said, “It was not his fault.

He misfired and such accidents happen usually during training.”Banganga Police Station in-charge Indramani Patel said the matter was brought to his notice, but the jail department has not given any formal information in this regard.He said the police were collecting information about the incident on their own.Meanwhile, experts claimed that during the firing exercise, there is a protocol that is supposed to be followed. The officials might not have followed it which led to the incident, they said.
