Five school buses lose fitness certificate

INDORE: Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Tuesday cancelled fitness certificates of five school buses after a surprise inspection revealed that they were not fit to ferry school students. One of these buses also had ‘start’ problem, which led to cancellation of fitness certificate on spot.Transport department has launched the drive to ensure safety of school children. “School management has been instructed to rectify these faults and present vehicles for re-inspection and obtain fresh certificates,” she added. The self-start system of bus (MP09-FA-4028) belonging to Ryan International School did not work properly during inspection. Four of these buses belong to Ryan International School and the other was of Kasera Vidya Niketan School.Regional transport officer Jitendra Singh Raghuvanshi suspended fitness certificate of the five buses owing to malfunctioning of emergency exits, non-functional indicators, bad and damaged condition of tyre, absence of fire extinguisher etc.

It is checking buses for speed governors, emergency exits, fire extinguishers, condition of floor, driver cabin, seats, windows, window grills, reflectors etc.Nisha Chouhan, ARTO at Indore RTO, who led the drive on Tuesday, said that 69 buses of seven schools were inspected.“Five of the buses were found to be not up to the mark. Improper emergency exit barrier, poor condition of floor area and tyres were also found to be in a bad shape in these vehicles,” she said. The self-start system of bus (MP09-FA-4028) belonging to Ryan International School did not work properly during inspection. Pointing out that they are very strict on safety measures, she said that buses would be issued FCs only if they were found fit in all aspects to transport students. “School management has been instructed to rectify these faults and present vehicles for re-inspection and obtain fresh certificates,” she added.
