Soyabean meal exports to stay bullish

Indore: Soyabean meal exports are likely stay close to 2 lakh tonne next month owing to renewed demand from Iran and higher availability of meal in market.Soyabean meal exports in January stood at 2.90 lakh tonne as against 1.72 lakh tonne in the same period a year ago, according to SOPA.A pick-up in exports of soyabean meal has cheered up the sector that witnessed poor exports last year due to less crop and higher prices in international market.SOPA executive director DN Pathak said, “Demand from Iran is giving a good push to Indian soyabean meal. So factors are favourable.”In ongoing oil year, soyabean meal exports are likely to touch 20 lakh tonne, according to SOPA.Till January, the country has exported 11.06 lakh tonne soyabean meal as against 8.62 lakh tonne a year ago in the same time period.Demand for Indian soyabean meal has jumped from France, Japan and UAE, according to industry players.A soyabean meal exporter from Indore said, “This year we have sufficient stock and new markets to sell our produce. This season availability is also higher because of increase in the output. We are quite hopeful of exporting more this year.”Industry players said exports may touch a new high if China starts importing.Recently, a delegation from China inspected around soyabean crushing facility in the country of which around five were from Indore.Industry experts said tough talks have initiated but resumption of exports to China is unlikely to start soon due to cumbersome paper formalities and other mandatory sanctions.
