Indore: A committee set up to probe into the allegations of corruption in construction of a kitchen at Government New Law College has found that college authorities bypassed government bodies authorized for construction work and opted for private firms to get the work done.The three-member panel, set up by directorate of higher education ( DHE ) additional director Dr KN Chaturvedi following complaints, found that the kitchen was constructed using public participation funds through a private contractor.
However, it could not ascertain the exact amount spent on the structure as cashbook was not submitted by college authorities.“The committee found that the college did not get the kitchen constructed by public works department (PWD) and opted for private firms,” said Chaturvedi.Total Rs 18.81 lakh was sanctioned through public participation for construction of canteen, which was approved by PWD.
But, for construction, the college paid three private firms Rs 4.72 lakh, Rs 4.97 lakh and Rs 4.89 lakh, he added.College principal Dr Shobha Sudras told TOI, “We got the kitchen-cum-canteen made through Jan Bhagidari (public participation) in a short span of time in November 2017 with an amount of Rs 4 lakh as NAAC team was about to come for inspection.”The committee, headed by principal of Govt Maharani Laxmi Bai Girls PG (New GDC) College Dr Kusumlata Nighwal that was set up on December 29 was given two weeks to complete the inspection and submit a report.
