Not best of times for biodiesel retailers

Indore: Sale of biodiesel through pumps in Indore is getting affected due to lack of clarity on part of district food and civil supplies department in providing requisite permissions, alleged retailers. Its responsibility of retailers to seek requisite permissions from departments concerned to run business.”He added that department has received information about two more biodiesel retail pumps operating in Depalpur and Betma and similar actions of sealing the facility and giving one month time for getting requisite permissions will be taken. In absence of clarity about which department should be approached, our business has been suffering,” Subham Bhanpurkar from Samrajya Biofuel told TOI.Bhanpurkar added that after three days of sealing the pump, department gave conditional permission to run business for a month but lack of clarity over getting requisite permissions is still there.“For running business, licence from Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) is not needed and therefore, five biodiesel pumps have been operating in the district. The department on basis of orders received from state government on October 22 has sealed three of the total five biodiesel pumps operating in district in last 15 days as officials cited that Centre has not permitted selling biodiesel directly to consumer while retailers had also not published standards specified by Bureau of Indian Standards.The officials however found density of biodiesel similar to that of high speed diesel.“At the time of sealing pump on February 2, we asked officials to help us in getting requisite permission, to run business but they informed us to approach Central government.
