Indore: Indore’s ‘fishy tales’ seem to getting all the more tragic. Barely 10 days after death of fish in Bijasan Tekari pond, thousands of fish were found floating in a pond in Lasudia Mori on Thursday morning. People living in the area woke up to the sight of over a thousand dead fish floating on shoreline of the pond. As the news spread, locals started thronging the pond to get a glimpse.Locals suspected contamination of water leading to death of fish. “Release of some kind of chemical in the pond water might have led to death of fish,” Raju Bhadoriya, one of locals said. After the incident was brought to the notice of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), a team of civic body workers reached the spot and removed dead fish from the pond to avoid contamination.“Around 2000 fish were found dead,” said officials on the spot.IMC officials however remained clueless and said that fish died due to contamination of water as the pond was highly polluted. “Apparently, water from drainage lines of nearby residential colonies got mixed with the water through unidentified leakages in the secondary drainage lines, which led to the contamination and subsequent death of fish,” said IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh. He said that IMC has ordered an inquiry including testing of water sample to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident. “We have also decided to replace all secondary lines and connect them with the primary line to prevent mixing of drainage water into the water body,” he added. On February 4, hundreds of fish were found dead in a pond at Bijasan Tekri. The civic body has still not been able to reach a conclusion as to what led to the death of fish. Repeated incidents of death of fish in water bodies have raised question over maintenance of water bodies by the civic body.
