Indore: A major tragedy was averted on Thursday morning when tanker filled with petrol overturned after hitting a car in Manglia area and burst into flames. Four cattle were charred to death.The incident took place on Manglia Sanwer road near Gari Pipliya village around 10.30 am when the driver of the petrol tanker, while trying to save a cow, hit a four-wheeler coming from the opposite direction.The tanker overturned on the spot and petrol spilled on the road. It reached a house by the roadside. Several animals who were tied in the cattle shed of the house were charred. Four of them died on the spot.Soon after the incident, locals informed fire officials and a fire tender reached the spot. It took six tanks of water and four tank foam to douse the flames.The driver and conductor of the vehicle had saved their lives by jumping off the truck after it overturned. Some locals also came to the rescue and tried to douse the flames. The family in the house was asked to evacuate immediately and their safety was insured. Police, however, could not save the cattle. Fire officials claimed that had they not controlled the fire immediately, wheat crops in the farmland by the roadside would have been destroyed.
