Industries may face water cut from Feb 18

There could be some problems for few days as the testing is being done but we will supply ample water through hydrant to industries once Karam water stops.”Water demand in sector 3 of Pithampur is about 5 MLD to 6 MLD. The department should have intimated us at least a fortnight ago so that we could have arranged for alternative supply.

Indore: Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam (AKVN) will stop water supply to industries in Sector 3 and some areas of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) after February 18 due to depleting water levels at Karam dam.According to a written notification to industries, AKVN has stated that owing to fast depletion of water level in Karam, water supply may stop any time and alternative supply will be made through hydrant to industries.Industries have expressed strong displeasure over such a short notice about water cut that will lead to higher expenses and difficulties in arranging alternative sources such as tanker supply.Gautam Kothari, President, Pithampur Audhyogik Sangathan said, “This is such a short notice for industries. The department should have intimated us at least a fortnight ago so that we could have arranged for alternative supply. Hydrant supply will not be sufficient for every industry.”Last year, AKVN had supplied treated water to industries until mid-April. Industries said, such a short notice may hamper their production capacities.“We require 500 KL water per day and it will not be possible to arrange tanker water in such a short notice,” said Dinesh Mishra, head of corporate department, at a packaging industry operating from SEZ.Industries in Pithampur, state’s largest industrial belt, face acute water scarcity every summer due to depletion of water levels in Karam dam and Sanjay Jalashay but this year water supply from Narmada-Kshipra link project is seen as fulfilling industrial demand.Kumar Purushottam, Managing Director, AKVN said, “We will supply Narmada water to industries most likely from Feb 20 or 22.
