Indore: Despite being wedding season, readymade garment manufacturers of Indore are facing tough time and have cut down their productions by about 30 per cent owing to decline in demand locally and out of station markets.Indore, a hub for cloth and readymade garment, has failed to cash on this wedding season due to which manufacturers are left with a pile of unsold stocks.Indore Readymade Vastra Vyapari Sangh secretary Ashish Nigam said, “We have dropped our manufacturing capacity by around 30 per cent during the peak demand season because sales are very poor in the local retail as well as out of the station markets.”Festivals and weddings are the peak season for sales of garments in the country. The wedding season starts from November and continues till June. Kids and men wears are the speciality of Indore garment industry and are marketed in the entire country.Readymade garment manufacturers said, to cut down on towering stocks with manufacturers, most of the units have slashed their capacity and it may further reduce if market fails to pick up.“Our bulk costumers in other states have restricted orders stating lack of funds and poor response. Rural market has witnessed a sharp drop in demand despite good crop due to financial crunch,” Nigam said.Southern states such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra are some of the leading markets of Indore’s cloth and readymade garment.Maharaja Tukojirao Cloth Market Merchants Association member and owner of a saree shop Arun Vakliwal, “Liability on manufacturers and dealers are multiplying because there is negligible rotation of fund in the market. Sales in Malwa-Nimar belt, an important market for cloths have declined sharply.”There are around 3,000 garment manufacturing units in Indore and the industry size is about Rs 1,500 crore, industry players said.
