IMC razes shaky building, 12 families left homeless

Indore: Amid protest by the residents, Indore Municipal Corporation on Friday demolished a dilapidated building in Raoji Bazaar area.IMC’s removal team and local police reached the spot and asked the occupants of a three-storyed building to vacate it.Twelve families were living in the dilapidated structure for past many years.While the civic body officials claimed that the occupants were already informed about the drive in advance, the affected people said that a notice was issued to them last night. They also alleged that the action was taken under the pressure of a cabinet minister. “I have been living in the house with my family for past many years. There is a dispute related to ownership of the building and taking advantage of this, some ‘land mafia’ wanted to demolish it through IMC ,” said Mukesh Khatik, a resident.IMC assistant commissioner Mahendra Singh Chouhan said that the building was dilapidated and notices were issued to all the occupants well in advance to vacate it. “As the occupants refused to vacate the building, IMC removal gang carried out the drive in presence of the police force,” Chouhan said. Police, however, managed to stop her.The cops also resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Later, IMC team also removed a dilapidated building situated in Narsing Bazaar area.
