50-acre land marked for confectionery cluster in Indore

INDORE: Madhya Pradesh Industry Development Corporation ( MPIDC ) is developing a cluster for confectionery units on around 50 acre land The cluster is coming up on the land opposite to Indian Institute for Management in Rau-Pithampur belt.An official from the regional office of MPIDC said, “We have selected the land to develop a cluster for confectionery on land available opposite to IIM . The development work has already started.”According to MPIDC, cluster is expected to come up in a year. These units are engaged in the manufacturing of candy, wafers, bubble gums, lollypop and chocolate. The upcoming cluster will have capacity to accommodate 50 to 60 units.The official said, “The cluster will get full soon as confectionery units are in touch and wanting to start facility as the area gets developed.”The cluster will be developed on a small chunk of total 300 acre land earmarked for developing a multipurpose industrial area. Indore Confectionery Manufacturers Association has been demanding a cluster to accommodate units scattered across city and to aid growth of the sector.Indore Confectionery Manufacturers Association president Dinesh Choudhary said, “The cluster will give a much needed boost to the sector that was struggling to survive due to rising competition and squeezing market.”Rising cost of operation has forced five confectionery units to shut shops in past 3-4 months, according to the association.A squeeze in margins of manufacturers amid limited market and emergence of new players has also weighed down on industry sentiment.In Indore there are about 100 small and large scale confectionery manufacturers spread across Palda industrial area, Sanwer road and polo ground.
