Revenue officials Rs 38cr off target with 12 days to go

Indore: The district administration, which is engrossed in preparations for Lok Sabha elections, is way behind from its revenue recovery target through land diversion tax.The administration, which had recovered Rs 80 crore against its target of Rs 88 crore in last financial year, has just crossed the mark of Rs 31 crore against this fiscal’s target of Rs 69 crore. Instructions have been issued to SDMs and tehsildars to approach account holders against whom land diversion tax of lakhs of rupees is pending. “Notices to 5,000 account holders have been issued and a list of ‘big defaulters’ has been prepared to achieve the target. This could pose problem in achieving desired revenue collection target,” a senior administrative official said on condition of anonymity.He added that after Lok Sabha elections, civic body elections will be conducted in next six months and it could also pose hurdles in revenue recovery work for 2019-20. Property of defaulters will be seized if SDMs and tehsildars fail to approach them,” ADM Ajaydeo Sharma told TOI.With only 12 days remaining in completing this of financial year, the officials concerned are hopeful to recover Rs 10-15 crore more.The list of big defaulters includes names of Indore Development Authority, State Bank of India and cooperative societies.“Many account holders are approaching court against recovery of land diversion tax.
