Hackers ‘hijack’ phone via app, steal money

They remotely accessed her phone and withdrew Rs 40,000 through UPI transaction,” said SP Jitendra Singh adding that action was initiated and a case was registered.Like the young student, many people have filed complaints of this online fraud.In the emerging digital banking fraud, a customer’s bank balance can be easily wiped by using the passwords acquired through a smartphone remote access application, said an official.The fraudsters get victims to download a smartphone remote access application by using different techniques. “This is called social engineering. They can give any reasons like job opportunities, matrimonial offers and employment openings to people and make them download the application on their phone,” said SP Singh.Hackers get remote access to the mobile through a nine-digit code generated on the victim’s device after a sign up is done.Once a fraudster inserts this app code on his device, he will ask the victim to grant certain permissions, which are similar to what are required while using other apps.
