Documentary may put gair in heritage list of UNESCO

Following implementation of model code of conduct, Gair organizers were told to ensure that the event is not used for political gain. During this, organizers urged officials concerned to remove barricades erected between Rajwada and Gopal Mandir, as part of ongoing restoration work of these historic buildings. To this, IMC officials said that the barricades have been erected for safety of passersby.Later, it was decided that barricades will be moved around two feet off road to pave way for vehicles, which will be part of gair procession. To this, IMC additional commissioner Sandeep Soni said, “We will continue with the old rules.

Indore: Indore district administration with help of cultural department will film a documentary of Rangpanchmi procession called gair in Indore and send it to UNESCO with a request to add the festival to list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.ADM Ajaydeo Sharma on Friday disclosed the idea in a meeting of gair organizers and informed them about collector Lokesh Kumar Jatav’s plan to seek suggestions for filming the documentary and bringing Indori’s way of celebrating Rangpanchmi at world-level.Ahead of the festival, Gair organizers apprised the senior administrative and police officials about the problems while taking out procession and sought help in resolving the issues. Tori Corner gair organizer Shekhar Giri said that Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) does not provide even two tankers of water. To this, IMC additional commissioner Sandeep Soni said, “We will continue with the old rules. If the civic body earlier provided water for Gair, we will continue the same this year as well.”During the meet, ADM informed participants that apart from installing CCTVs on procession route, two drone cameras will be used to keep vigil.Later, senior administration and police officials along with Gair organizers took stock of procession route near Rajwada Square.
