Associations of Industries Madhya Pradesh president Alok Dave said, “Situation is bad in industrial areas as units are facing a hard time due to water supply issues. Industries are paying Rs 500 to 700 per tanker to meet processing demand.Tanker water is treated through RO to make it drinking quality while few industries such as pharmaceuticals have to treat water so that it can be used for formulation process in laboratory.

Indore: Summer has just begun and small scale industries have already started facing the brunt of water shortage. Depleting groundwater levels amid lack of municipal water supply in some industrial belts including Palda, Polo Ground and Sanwer has increased dependency on tankers.Industries claimed that cost of operations have started going up and will escalate further with rising temperature owing to dependency on tankers and rising cost.Palda Audhyogik Sangathan secretary Harish Nagar said, “Industries are meeting demand through tanker water because borings are drying up in the area. An estimated 300 tankers are called in Palda every day by different industries.”Industries said that with depleting water levels in Pipliyapala Lake, groundwater supply is diminishing.Confectionery, plastic, chemical and pharmaceuticals are some of the industries located in Sanwer, Palda and Polo Ground whose daily operations are largely dependent on water. According to Palda Audhyogik Sangathan, there are around 450 units functional in the area.Industries at Sanwer Road and Polo Ground have also become completely depended on tankers in absence of regular IMC water supply.
