INDORE: The state government’s town and country planning (TnCP) department has allowed application of Indore Municipal Corporation IMC ) for changing land use of Hukumchand Mill land from industrial to commercial, the high court was told on Tuesday. Through the letter, TnCP department requested urban administration department for a letter to be written by the principal secretary to Election Commission of India (ECI) for notification to be published in the gazette. The government sought 10 days to complete the process. Justice Prakash Shrivastava granted the time needed by the government for further proceedings and listed the case for further hearing on April 8, 2019. “The principal secretary of urban administration department is yet to write to the ECI for permission to publish the gazette notification. Once the permission is granted, the land diversion notification will be published. However, if the ECI doesn’t grant us the permission we will move the court and seek exemption of applicability of model code of conduct for publishing the gazette notification,” additional advocate general Ravindra Singh Chhabra said. The application for land diversion was made by the IMC on March 14, 2019, four days after imposition of model code of conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The application was decided by the department internally and was allowed.A major roadblock in the sale of the 42 acres of premium land in the centre of the city was its land use which needed to be changed. Once made commercial, its value will increase manifold thus making it easier to be sold by government or IMC. The realization of assets will also help in settling dues of workers, apart from secured creditors, who had extended loan to the mill.
