In-laws set woman on fire over dispute

Indore: A 40-year-old woman was set on fire by her brother-in-law, his son and wife and her sister-in-law after a dispute at Bohra Colony in Aerodrome area on Tuesday night.The incident took place around 8 pm when the woman, Jamna Bai, wife of Dashrath Singh Chouhan, was sitting outside her house with her 20-year-old daughter Reena Chouhan. Deepak and Reena rushed the woman to MY Hospital. Doctors stated her condition to be critical.“A case of attempted murder has been registered against the four on complaint of Reena.

The accused Amar Singh, Dashrath’s elder brother, who lives adjacent to his house, approached Jamna and started abusing her and Reena. He accused them of having illicit relationship with many people.Jamna and Amar had a heated argument and she asked him why he always accused her of having an affair and asked him if he had ever seen her with someone. After this, the fight escalated and in a fit of rage Amar brought a bottle filled with kerosene from his house. He poured kerosene on her and set her on fire. Amar’s wife Durga and her son Arjun held Jamna, while his sister-in-law Sharda held Reena when the accused set the woman on fire. Jamna’s son Deepak, who was watching television inside the house, came out to rescue his mother. After this the accused rushed inside their house. Deepak and Reena rushed the woman to MY Hospital. Doctors stated her condition to be critical.“A case of attempted murder has been registered against the four on complaint of Reena. We are yet to record statement of the victim,” Aerodrome police station in charge Ashok Patidar said.Officials said that there were old issues between both the families and they always fought with each other.
