INDORE: MGM Medical College has given green signal to doctors’ demand of constructing a sports complex for them. However, the plan has been stuck over choice of site. The college has identified a space near girl’s hostel while students have demanded to construct it near KEM school building.According to college officials, students and junior doctors have been demanding for sports complex. After plan was approved, college also received approval from ministry of youth affairs and sports for budget. Medical college spokesperson Dr Rahul Rokade said, “According to plan, college will develop a basketball court, football ground, tennis court, athletics track and cricket ground multipurpose gymnasium complex for indoor sports. The gymnasium complex will have gym, badminton court, table tennis , squash, chess and carom area.” He added, “Initially college management approved space near girl’s hostel. The students demanded that they want complex to be constructed in college compound as they will face problem to go near girl’s hostel. Students also alleged that if complex is constructed on college campus, it will be easier for them to go and play sports during break from duty.”Rokade said, “After students demanded for change in space, we have decided to construct multipurpose gymnasium complex, basketball and tennis court near KEM school building, while the athletics track, cricket ground and football ground will be developed near hostel as the space on college campus is insufficient for athletics track.” Officials claimed that the complex and other grounds will cost over Rs 8 crore for which proposal is being made and will be sent to ministry for approval so that the budget can be sanctioned. It is claimed that the complex will be ready for medicos within two years.
