Hundred trees likely to be uprooted for Metro rail in Indore

INDORE: Over hundred trees located between Main Road-10 and Khajrana are likely to be shifted or chopped for proposed Metro rail line project. Indore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has sought permission from Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and also sought its assistance in shifting and chopping trees that are coming in way of the project.Metro Rail project’s general manager Shobha Khanna said that permission has been sought for all trees that are coming in way of construction work. We would also monitor and assist them in this work to ensure minimum impact on green cover,” he added. “We would grant permission on basis of survey report. Metro rail corporation authorities have identified around 138 trees for shifting and chopping and have approached IMC,” he said.Joshi said that they survey is meant to verify number of trees that have been marked as an obstruction in construction work.“Most of the trees like Gulmohar, Kachnaar that are coming in way of first phase of this project were planted by Indore Development Authority 8-10 years ago.

Metro rail corporation authorities have identified around 138 trees for shifting and chopping and have approached IMC,” he said.Joshi said that they survey is meant to verify number of trees that have been marked as an obstruction in construction work.“Most of the trees like Gulmohar, Kachnaar that are coming in way of first phase of this project were planted by Indore Development Authority 8-10 years ago. With help of our own survey, we aim to check for the type of trees and also if there is any scope of shifting them,” he said.Joshi said that it will take at least a week for them to complete the survey. “We would grant permission on basis of survey report. We would also monitor and assist them in this work to ensure minimum impact on green cover,” he added.
