Indore: Dealers foresee woes over filing returns in GST

General secretary Ahilya Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sushil Sureka said, "Dealers will face a lot of problem in filing returns under GST. We have demanded the government should provide GST software to trade associations so that we can conduct training for our members. INDORE: Dealers apprehend some serious trouble in filing returns and following fortnightly deadline under Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime due to lack of training and clarity on commodity wise tax rates There are about three lakh dealers in the state of Madhya Pradesh who are required to migrate from VAT regime to GST regime while in Indore there are about 40,000 registered dealers with VAT and CST. "Industry participants said that small industries working in limited resources will face difficulties in handling GST as majority of them are not tech-savvy and many do not have access to internet.Dealers registered with GST will have to file 37 returns in a year in phases which according to chartered accountants will increase the workload and complications for the merchant.Industrialists said that all small industries are not computer literate and they will have to employ additional manpower to file returns every month.GST is expected to be implemented from July.Sureka said that the invoice format is very complicated and dealers will face problem in classification of goods.As many as 125 commercial tax department officials have undergone training to operate the new GST software in batches.Nitesh Gupta, an entrepreneur said, "The number of registered dealers under GST will increase but we do not have sufficient trained tax consultants with knowledge of GST to provide consultancy to dealers."
