Indore: A 'people's commission' was formed by the protesting farmers in Madhya Pradesh to conduct a probe into the firing incident in Pipliamandi of Mandsaur that led to deaths of five peasants on June 6."The 15-member commission, headed by senior advocate Anand Mohan Mathur, will conduct an independent probe into the deaths of farmers due to police firing during a peaceful agitation," Kisan Mazdoor Sangh president Shivkumar Sharma (Kakkaji) announced at a press conference in Ratlam.The commission will comprise retired judges, journalists and social workers, he said adding the report prepared by the commission will be handed over to the President.The farmer leader squarely blamed the Madhya Pradesh government of 'killing' the farmers during the protests in Mandsaur and alleged that farmers were beaten up before being shot dead at close range. "One of the deceased farmers had seven fractures on his limbs," he alleged.He announced plans to hold a 'jail bharo andolan' from August 9 to 15, wherein farmers from 22 states will stage protests and court arrests.The farmers are demanding loan waiver and fixing of maximum support price based on the recommendations of the MS Swaminathan Committee.Kakkaji claimed that even during the British rule, there was no tax imposed on seeds, but the BJP government is imposing GST. "The government is waiving loans of wealthy industrialists, but can't take a decision on farmers," he alleged.The farmers' protest in Madhya Pradesh, which began on June 1, took a violent turn on June 6, when five of them were killed in police firing at Mandsaur.Subsequently, the farmers' protest witnessed bandh and arson as the agitation spread to other districts of western Madhya Pradesh including Neemuch, Dhar, Ratlam and Jhabua.
