Blast rips through van parked outside school in MP's Khachrod

INDORE: Children had a narrow escape when a blast destroyed a van that was parked outside their school waiting to drop them home in Khachrod town of Ujjain district in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday.The blast took place in the school van at around 4pm when it was parked outside Priyanka Memorial School waiting for the children after the day was over. The explosion turned the van into mangled remains as fire that followed, turned it into ashes.Though the blasts are believed to be the result of leakage in LPG kit, experts were ascertaining the reasons. The van was apparently fitted with LPG kit without clearance from the RTO," said Khachrod police station in-charge Dilip Verma.Sources said the van was owned by Ashraf, a building contractor, who had attached the vehicle with the school to ferry the children. "We have registered a case against the van owner and are investigating the matter. School authorities refused to comment on the issue.

No injuries were reported.Eyewitnesses claimed that the van, which was fitted with an LPG kit, was thrown at least seven ft in the air following the explosion.Fire brigade rushed to the spot and doused the flames, before it could spread to a petrol pump situated around 300 meters away.
