Citizenship rights for Chakmas, Hajongs unacceptable: Aapsu

Aapsu general secretary Tobom Dai, during the meeting, said the Chakmas and Hajongs 'should not demand the same rights as indigenous people from the state'. He added that they should stop atrocities against the indigenous people, a communique from the union said. ITANAGAR: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (Aapsu) has made it clear that the union and the indigenous people will never accept granting of citizenship rights to Chakmas and Hajongs residing in the state.Aapsu president Hawa Bagang, during a meeting with the representatives of Chakma and Hajong refugees at Diyun in Changlang district on Sunday, reiterated their stand on the issue. A team of the apex students' body of the state is on a five-day tour to the Chakma-Hajong affected areas in eastern Arunachal Pradesh districts to take stock of the ground reality.Bagang said the movement for driving out refugees is aimed at protecting the indigenous people of the state.
