Candlelight vigil for Karbi mob lynching victims in Arunachal

The event was organised by the All Kristi Kendras of Itanagar and the All Capital Complex Assamese Youth Welfare Association. Members of the All Arunachal Pradesh Gorkha Youth Welfare Association and the All Bengali Welfare Federation also extended their support.The organisations jointly appealed to the Assam government to fasttrack the case and also sought a law against mob lynching. ITANAGAR: A candlelight vigil was held at Indira Gandhi Park here on Sunday evening to extend solidarity to the families of the two Assamese youths who were lynched by a mob in Dokmoka in West Karbi Anglong district on June 8. When they stopped their car to ask for directions, some villagers, suspecting them of being child-lifters, attacked them. "If there is any suspicion on a person, people should report them to the police instead of taking the law into their own hands," the organisations said.

They urged people to be aware of circulation of fake news on social media and expressed hope that innocent lives are not lost because of online rumours.On June 9, a sound engineer from Mumbai, Nilotpal Das (29) and his businessman friend Abhijeet Nath (30) were beaten to death on Friday evening in Karbi Anglong district by a mob which mistook the duo for child-lifters. When they stopped their car to ask for directions, some villagers, suspecting them of being child-lifters, attacked them.
