Tibetan refugees availing ST benefits: Student body

ITANAGAR: Alleging that Tibetan refugees living in the Kameng district are availing benefits meant for scheduled tribes (ST), the All West Kameng District Students' Union ( AWKDSU ) has asked the state government to constitute a a fact-finding committee to identify these refugees.AWKDSU has claimed that there are 123 Tibetan refugees living in the district, out of which 14 hold both refugee cards and ST certificates which they are using to avail benefits that scheduled tribes are entitled to.The union added that it is not against the settlement of Tibetan refugees in the district, but they should not have access to benefits meant for scheduled tribes.AWKDSU vice president (protocol) Steven Jebel Sichisow said, "We want the government identify people who are availing benefits meant for both refugees and scheduled tribes.
