Arunachal Cong threatens to launch protests over TAH compensation scam

"Our party has submitted a memorandum to state governor and chief minister through the chief secretary, mentioning the 10-day ultimatum to grant compensations to all eligible persons. The assessment should be done in a fair manner, with all the affected people being informed before the team's visit and the survey documented for evidence, he added. "The APCC will hold a meeting of all affected people, Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum, students' bodies, and all like-minded organizations and political parties on August 17 to find a solution to the problem," he said. He added that they will organize processions, protest rallies and gheraos of the civil secretariat in the first phase, 'jail bharo andolan' in the second phase, and a call for protests in New Delhi in the subsequent stages.The APCC president claimed that eligible benefactors were not paid due compensations and the money was siphoned off to other people.

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has served a 10-day ultimatum to the state government to grant justice to all victims of the Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH) compensation scam "If justice is not granted within the given deadline, the Congress party will be forced to launch a series of protests till the goal is achieved," APCC president Takam Sanjoy told media persons here on Friday night. He added that they will organize processions, protest rallies and gheraos of the civil secretariat in the first phase, 'jail bharo andolan' in the second phase, and a call for protests in New Delhi in the subsequent stages.The APCC president claimed that eligible benefactors were not paid due compensations and the money was siphoned off to other people. The APCC has also reiterated its demand to hand over the case to CBI as the special investigation cell of the state police is not competent to probe Rs 246-crore scam," he said.Sanjoy suggested that the government should send a fact-finding team to conduct re-assessment to verify compensation amounts payable for the Potin-Bopi stretch of the highway. The assessment should be done in a fair manner, with all the affected people being informed before the team's visit and the survey documented for evidence, he added. "The APCC will hold a meeting of all affected people, Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum, students' bodies, and all like-minded organizations and political parties on August 17 to find a solution to the problem," he said.
