Man accuses Arunachal cop of assault, extortion

ITANAGAR: A man has accused a police officer from Mebo police outpost in East Siang district of harassment, causing grievous injury and extorting money. "At around 8 pm on July 29, I visited the police outpost as some of my acquaintances were arrested. He claimed that he regained consciousness at home and his wife told him that he had been brought home by police.Ali's letter also accused Poddar of having demanded money from him in the past. In a letter addressed to the DIGP (central), the East Siang SP and the Pasighat police station OC, one Mohammad Billar Ali , a resident of Romdum in Mebo subdivision, has laid these accusations against sub-inspector NK Poddar.

When I reached the outpost, ASI Poddar shouted at me and ordered his police personnel to beat me without any reason," he said.Ali alleged that the other policemen did not comply with the order but Poddar himself assaulted him. "I sustained a fracture in one of my fingers and subsequently I lost consciousness," Ali claimed in the letter. He claimed that he regained consciousness at home and his wife told him that he had been brought home by police.Ali's letter also accused Poddar of having demanded money from him in the past.
