Vajpayee asthi immersed in Arunachal's Parsuram Kund

ITANAGAR: The state bade final adieu to former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee by immersing his asthi at Parsuram Kund in Lohit district on Friday. Earlier, the urn containing the asthi was kept at Pasighat Advance Landing Ground for half an hour en route to Parsuram Kund for public viewing. Recalling the contribution of Vajpayee to the northeast, Mein said a special package was prepared for the region during his tenure as Prime Minister. "His contribution to northeast was immense, which is now evident in the region, be it in the form of PMGSY or in the science and technology sector," Mein said. As the Sky One chopper carrying the urn containing the ashes of Vajpaee landed at the helipad near the kund, thousands of people gathered to pay their last respects to the beloved leader.

A full guard of honour was also presented at the helipad.Deputy chief minister Chowna Mein, who was accompanied by art & culture minister Mohesh Chai, BJP state unit president Tapir Gao, general secretary Jarpum Gamlin and civil and police officials, immersed the ashes in the kund after performing puja. All-religion prayers were organised at the venue before the immersion.
