Khandu commended the role of police and security forces in maintaining law and order in the state and in the region and said the security situation in the region has considerably improved due to fresh development impetus given by the Centre. "Police can play a positive role in promotion of tourism by conducting themselves in a decent and helpful way," Rijiju added.The convention deliberated upon consolidating the police and security forces over improving the law and order situation in the region and formulating strategies to deal with new challenges.Khandu on Thursday said security and development has to go together and without the police being efficient such goals cannot be achieved. ITANAGAR: The 25th annual conference of police chiefs of northeastern states started on Thursday in the city, with chief minister Pema Khandu reminding them that that law and order is a prerequisite for development.Union minister of state for home affairs Kiren Rijiju gave a call to exercise calmness, refrain from profanity and exercise empathy even in tense situations.Addressing the two-day conference here at Dorjee Khandu State Convention Centre, where heads of central police organization of the region are also participating, Rijiju said people have expectations from police, because of which they tend to be more demanding and abusive towards them.
