Arunachal Pradesh to get 3 new blood banks

ITANAGAR: Three new blood banks will be made functional in Arunachal Pradesh soon, health officials said here on Tuesday. The three new blood banks - which would be set at Seppa, the headquarters of East Kameng district , Khonsa (Tirap) and Longding (Longding district) - would become functional after funds budgeted under the State Annual Development Agenda (SADA) are released.This will take the total blood banks in the state to 12.State blood transfusion council (SBTC) deputy director Dr Nabam Budh informed that the buildings for the three blood banks are ready and will serve about three lakh people of East Kameng. Moreover, the blood component separation units for Bomdila and Ziro district hospitals, proposed under SADA, would also be made functional this year, he said.Despite voluntary blood donation camps being conducted by Arunachal Vivekananda Yuva Sakti (AVYS), the state still faces blood crisis, as about 5,000 units are collected annually against requirement of about 15,000 units.
