Lok Sabha elections: JD-S fields Buddhist monk from Mukto seat

ITANAGAR: HD Deve Gowda-led JD(S) has announced 11 candidates for the assembly polls in Arunachal. For the Mukto assembly seat, JD(S) has fielded Buddhist monk from Tawang, Lama Lobsang Gyatso, whose arrest for allegedly defaming the abbot of the famed Tawang Monastery in 2016 had led to massive protests in which two died in police firing.Gyatso will be up against Arunachal CM Pema Khandu, who is the BJP candidate from the Mukto seat. This will be the first time since 2004 that the Mukto seat, which has been traditionally a stronghold of the Mukto family, will contest a contest.JD(S) has fielded the state's longest serving chief minister and former Congress strongman, Gegong Apang, from Tuting-Yingkiong constituency in Upper Siang district. The other candidates fielded by the party are Tsering Dorjee (Tawang), Wangshu Wangsu (Longding-Pumao), Wangmaan Lowangcha (Khonsa East), Dr Rima Taipodia (Likabali), Nyadar Loya (Aalo West), Tapang Taloh (Pasighat West), Takam Paleng (Lekang), Shotike Hopak (Namsai) and Pike Pulu from Bordumsa-Diyun assembly constituency.Bandey Mili has been fielded as the JD(S) candidate from the Arunachal East parliamentary seat.
