In a festival message, governor B D Mishra said that Onam is the most popular festival of Kerala and is celebrated with great enthusiasm, show and gaiety. “Let us, caring for the sanctity of Onam festival, beyond all physical and mental barriers and unite into a common brotherhood in our great country. May King Mahabali on this Onam, bestow health, wealth, happiness and fullness to us all,” the governor added. In a festival message, governor B D Mishra said that Onam is the most popular festival of Kerala and is celebrated with great enthusiasm, show and gaiety. “The festival of Onam is dedicated to King Mahabali who was an Asur by birth but graduated to godhood by the virtue of his philanthropic deeds. The reign of King Mahabali, the most benevolent king ever born, is considered as the golden age of Kerala,” the governor said. “During his reign, no needy person ever returned empty handed from his door. The reminiscence about King Mahabali has it, that the king, in order to keep his words, gave away his entire Kingdom, the earth and the space and his body, his corporeal possession too, which were asked for by the God and acquiesced by the King. As a reward for his sacrifice, he was blessed by the almighty to remain eternally in the mind of the people of Kerala,” Dr Mishra said in his message. “On this auspicious day of Onam, I join my fellow citizens of Arunachal Pradesh in extending our good wishes to the people of Kerala living in our state, as also outside the states, in the country and abroad,” the Governor said. “Let us, caring for the sanctity of Onam festival, beyond all physical and mental barriers and unite into a common brotherhood in our great country.
