The man is a 50-year-old Aizawl man with recent travel history to Holland. His family has been kept in isolation. The first case of coronavirus came from Manipur after a 23-year-old woman who returned from the United Kingdom tested positive, making it the first case in the northeast region of India, an official said on Tuesday. According to a statement issued by K Rajo Singh, the Director of Manipurs Health and Family Welfare Department, the woman is now undergoing treatment at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal. “The woman was found infected during examination at the JNIMS. She is a resident of Thangmeiband Lourung Purely Leikai in Imphal West district. She had fallen sick on Monday,” another official of Health and Family Welfare Department said on condition of anonymity. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced nationwide three weeks lockdown starting from Tuesday midnight. All States and Union Territories will come under its purview. Stating that “the next 21 days will be very crucial for India”, the Prime Minister added in a live telecast on Tuesday night, “We are taking all steps to ensure continuous supply of essential commodities. In view of the current situation, the nationwide complete lockdown will be in place for 21 days — three weeks. Today India is at the stage where our actions today will decide that to what extent we can bring down the impact of this disaster. This is the time to strengthen our resolve again and again. He said this is an essential step to fight coronavirus decisively. He added that saving lives is priority as of now.
