National icons not restricted to place, caste: Rajasthan governor

JAIPUR: National icons , martyrs and veerangnas cannot be confined to the boundaries of a particular place or caste as they are national treasure, said Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh on Wednesday while addressing a public meeting in Manhorethana town of Jhalawar district.Singh was the chief guest at a function for unveiling the statue of Maharani Avantibai Lodha Singh along with chief minister Vasundhara Raje unveiled the statue of Maharani Avantibai Lodha at the circle in Manhorethana town.Martyrs and personalities like Mangal Pandey, Laxmibai and Maharani Avantibai made exemplary sacrifices in the 1857 freedom revolution, Singh said. "There was a time when one had to weave through dusty roads to reach Jhalawar region but now there is a network of roads and bridges to make the journey smooth and convenient," Raje said.The state government is committed to work for the development and progress of backward and extreme backward sections of the society and to put them in the leading rows, Raje added.Raje reiterated her budget announcements for Jhalawar region. The society that forgets and ignores such personalities and martyrs tends to lag behind and stay backward, he added.The governor appreciated CM Raje's efforts for the development and upliftment of backward neglected sections of the society in state.The governor also administered an oath to the gathering for making their village addiction and garbage free.Paying tribute to martyr Avantibai Lodha, Raje, who presided over the function, exhorted to root out the evils from society and work for the progress and development of the state and the country.She also recounted the development works carried out during her tenure as chief minister.
