Jaipur: The vast dairy cooperative network in the country can be tapped to make a bee-keeping an independent enterprise, which can help farmers diversify their income sources, said Dilip Rath, chairman of National Dairy Development Board here on Friday.He said bee-keeping also acts as a catalyst in increasing the yield of major agricultural and horticultural crops through cross pollination and can provide employment to around 215 lakh people.“Milk unions in Banaskantha (Gujarat), Sundarban (West Bengal) and Muzaffarpur (Bihar) are already procuring and marketing honey using their dairy infrastructure,” said Rath.National Bee Board is providing farmers an intensive one week training programme on bee-keeping activity.
