Situation is tense but under control in the area with the people demanding a strong action against the gravel mafia alleging involvement of police.According to Luni police, two masons workers identified as Chetanram and Mularam, both resident of Jhalamand, had been going on work on their motorcycle.“When they reached Khejadli crossing, a speeding dumper laden with gravel hit them crushing their motorcycle. One Chetanram (28) died while in transit to the hospital whereas seriously injured Mularam has been struggling for life in the hospital.Speeding dumpers loaded with gravel have emerged a major threat on the city roads especially in the night and the morning when they are off to different sites all across the city to unload the banned gravel and that too in full view of police. All across the city, piles of gravel can be seen from where the gravel is transported in tractor trolleys to different construction sites in and around the city. Some of these gravel storage depots are in the vicinity of police stations and chowkies but surprisingly police have been keeping a closed eye on the transportation of gravel as well as storage of the gravel in the city.On Wednesday, in a Divisional Level Review meeting by the divisional commissioner Lalit Kumar Gupta had taken up the issue and had emphasized on check on the mining and transportation of gravel but in spite of that the trade of gravel is unabated. In the meeting, additional director (Mining) was directed to take strict action against the gravel mafia and was assured of police assistance, whenever required. But in spite of that, the action lacks determination.
