Jaipur: With assembly elections approaching, state education department is working overtime to process the applications for scooty and laptops to its students before the election code of conduct is imposed in the coming months. The department distributes 20,000 two-wheelers to girl students who score above 85% and laptops to first 30,000 rankers in class X and XII every year. The distribution takes place in October and November. However, due to polls slated in November and December the department would like to pass the benefits of all its schemes on or before September first week.The 3.5 bicycles for girls enrolled in class VIII which is distributed district and block wise post Diwali is already being distributed in districts. This time all the elected representatives are involved in the distribution as for many this is the last time they can be a part of state government scheme. Another big scheme of laptop distribution of 10,000 each for class VIII, X and XII toppers is likely to start this month end. Even the schemes which are coinciding with the religious calendar have been advanced. The Gargi Puruskar which is cash prize given to girl students on the day of Basant Panchmi is being held in September.“Since the scheme has started it has never seen the distribution before Diwali. This time the state officials are working overtime to ensure that laptops are distributed on time. The procurement of laptops is a mammoth task which the officials have done by working overtime,” said a government official. Post the election code of conduct no political leader will be in a position to distribute or attend any government program. “Only bureaucrats can distribute the freebies or initiate government schemes,” said an officer. Similarly, every department is working overtime to ensure that programs and launches are concluded before the code of conduct.
