The arrangement was in response to the “organised cheating” witnessed in the same examination conducted in March this year which was subsequently scrapped. Jaipur city, where 209 examination centres have been set up, was most affected by the ‘digital curfew’ as many could not book cabs, check online status of their trains, buses or flights. Many shops remained closed fearing rampage by the huge crowd of young people in the city.“The last time I faced such an ordeal was in September last year when there was tension in Ramganj and internet was suspended. I had to catch a train but couldn’t book a cab to reach the station. I had to call up my cousin in Delhi to book the cab and check the train status,” said Sarita Sharma, a Jaipur resident.Cheating mafias had rigged an earlier test held in March this year, forcing the state to scrap the exam and hold it once again. A relentless operation, which began two weeks ago, to nab the cheating gangs resulted in the arrest of nearly 50 suspects. They were involved in “helping” candidates by arranging impersonators and providing question papers before the test. So, the police department walked the extra mile this time around to assure a “cheating-free” recruitment process even though it amounted to “high-handedness” that caused large-scale disruption in internet communication.
