Martyr cremated with honours

JAIPUR: Border Security Force (BSF) constable Lokendra Singh Shekhawat, who was killed in action fighting the Naxalites in Chhattisgarh during an anti-Naxal operation on July 14 was cremated with full honours in Sikar where his family performed the last rites on Monday.Singh is succeeded by his family as well as an eight-month-old infant.

JAIPUR: Border Security Force (BSF) constable Lokendra Singh Shekhawat, who was killed in action fighting the Naxalites in Chhattisgarh during an anti-Naxal operation on July 14 was cremated with full honours in Sikar where his family performed the last rites on Monday.Singh is succeeded by his family as well as an eight-month-old infant. Along with Singh, head constable Mukhtiyar Singh was also killed while another constable suffered bullet injury.Thousands turn up to pay tribute to martyr Mahinder Singh, a relative of the martyr told TOI, "Since he was a child, Lokendra wanted to join the defence forces and it is a big loss not only to the family but to the villagers as well and all of them came for his cremation. It was a huge crowd and proved how loved he was in the community. He really supported his family financially and ensured that their living condition improved over the years after he joined BSF."The 27-year-old joined BSF in 2012 and had been posted in Chhattisgarh since July 2017 where he was killed in an operation. His mortal remains were brought back to his village on Monday. Another relative said, "He had gone back from leave just 20 days back and we all are still in shock as to how could this happen. He has one elder brother but his mother is suffering from cancer and is undergoing chemotheraphy. Losing a young son is a big blow to them and to all of us as well."
