200 people march to PHED demand installation of water tanks

The area of ward 49 comes under dark zone and water is supplied by the tankers which stop for 5-10 minutes. Jaipur: Around 200 people marched into the office of Public Health Engineering Department ( PHED ) in Gandhi Nagar, Jaipur on Tuesday, demanding the implementation of the promise to set up 200 PVC water tanks in ward 49.For the last two years after a long agitation by the residents of ward 49, 200 PVC tanks with a capacity of 2000 litres were sanctioned. “If the tanks are not established according to the convenience of the people then there is no point of their set up. Many times people have agitated but as of yet nothing has been done and we want the PHED department to implement the sanctioned tanks at the place of convenience of people,” said Meena.Additional chief engineer Dinesh Saini however, gave assurance to the people that no discrimination will be done while setting up the tanks in the ward and the work for establishing 200 tanks will start very soon. The area is facing acute shortage of water and government is supplying water through tankers which is not enough as per the requirement of the people.The tanks were sanctioned by the department after mass agitation by the residents of Kho Nagoriyan on March 20, but after four months no tenders have been issued.Congress councillor of ward 49 Mohan Meena who was present at the PHED office alleged that BJP MLA Kailash Verma is using its power and has ordered the PHED officers to set up the tanks at the place of BJP workers.
