Narendra Modi interacts with Gram Jyoti Yojana beneficiaries

JAISALMER: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted with the beneficiaries of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana in Jaisalmer. Many residents of Jaisalmer told the PM how the scheme has brought 'light' in their lives. They told Modi that earlier, due to no electricity in their village, no one would marry off their daughters there and that they had to travel for kilometres for just getting wheat ground. Singh said that when he will celebrate his daughter's birthday, he will also celebrate the day light came to his hamlet.The beneficiaries looked very excited on interacting with Modi. The PM expressed happiness and extended his wishes to the villagers who were elated after benefitting from the rural electrification scheme.Modi was interacting with the beneficiaries of the scheme at NIA centre in Jaisalmer through video conferencing.

The PM expressed happiness and extended his wishes to the villagers who were elated after benefitting from the rural electrification scheme.Modi was interacting with the beneficiaries of the scheme at NIA centre in Jaisalmer through video conferencing. Many residents of Jaisalmer told the PM how the scheme has brought 'light' in their lives. They told Modi that earlier, due to no electricity in their village, no one would marry off their daughters there and that they had to travel for kilometres for just getting wheat ground. The villagers also said that earlier they were cut off from the country as there was no television and that the scheme has made their lives better.One of the residents, Shivnath Singh Khader of Kahla village, even named his daughter 'Deepika', to commemorate the day his village got electricity. Singh said that when he will celebrate his daughter's birthday, he will also celebrate the day light came to his hamlet.The beneficiaries looked very excited on interacting with Modi. The PM discussed the experience of the benefits of the scheme with them and the villagers said that it has happened for the first time since Independence that the centre has discussed the benefits of a scheme with the people at the grassroots and that too, the PM himself.It is to be mentioned here that a large part of rural Jaisalmer was deprived of electricity for a long time.
