Jaipur: The state has become a bastion for hate crime. Earlier there were incidents of thrashing of Dalit grooms by upper caste, however now the incidents of lynching are on the rise. This has given a nod to a survey that says Rajasthan is number 3 in hate crimes. Various minorities groups have accused the government of shielding those responsible for attacking Muslims and Dalits. An international human rights advocacy group had ranked Rajasthan on number three after Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh for 8 hate crimes in 2018 so far. The lynching of Rakbar Khan alias Akbar who was thrashed an killed while he was going after purchasing two cows has shown the lawlessness in the state. Police have though arrested two persons; it is evident that in the earlier cases of lynching including of Pehlu Khan the investigation is moving in slower pace.“Muslims and Dalits are targeted in Rajasthan. In the previous cases including of Pehlu Khan, Ummar Khan, Zakir Khan the police has not even done proper investigation. It is utter lawlessness in the state. I urge the government to take stringent action against all these murders. It appears that people who act as cow vigilantes are shielded by right wing outfits,” said Sher Mohammed, Sadar, Meo Panchayat, Alwar while talking to TOI.He added that the case of Afrazul a labourer from West Bengal has clearly shown that be it administration or government everyone has become a mute spectator over the killings. “Many Meos in the Mewat region are actually cattle farmers, but are now scared of keeping cows,” he added.
