Jaipur: The operation of Jaipur Metro on automatic train operation (ATO) mode is facing a delay as the permission from the Commissioner Railway Safety, Mumbai is still awaited. The Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) had proposed to start operation in ATO mode by June-end after successfully completing the trail. However, as permission has not been received, the operation is expected to start in mid-August, according to the sources.“We have forwarded the impact safety assessor (ISR) report to CMR and waiting for the approval. The operations can only be started after the approval,” said a JMRC official. Once the ATO system is operational, Metro train would function without any intervention from drivers. “It would control the speed, movement and braking among other key functions. The role of the driver, when the train is in ATO mode, will be limited to just pressing a button to open and close the train doors at the Metro stations,” said a JMRC senior official. The JMRC had conducted the trials during non-operational hours and officials believe once the new system is introduced, the running time will be reduced between Mansarovar and Chandpole corridor. The system allows the operation of trains at a very high frequency, and has built-in fail safe mechanisms.“Trains when on the ATO mode work on a communication-based train control (CBTC) system that allows control of train movement through continuous signal exchange between the trains and trackside equipment,” said the official.Meanwhile, the Jaipur Metro underground corridor between Badi Chaupar and Chandpol in the Walled City is expected to be completed by September. According to metro officials, 80 per cent civil work of the metro stations and tracks has been completed and the (JMRC) is hoping to complete work in stipulated deadline. Moreover, as digging of both the tunnels has been completed, the department has started the work of laying tracks and electrification.A JMRC offical said , “We have completed the work of laying track beds. Work to lay tracks, electrification and tunnel ventilation is started. The contract has also been issued for signal, telecommunication and fare collection work.”
